MyCam Update Week 1

MyCam Update Week 1

I share a lot in this update video, so I figure it’s only right to summarize.

  1.  I’ve got a new office.
  2.  Formatting of the ebook was harder than expected, but I got it done, thankfully.
  3.  Free ISBN freak-out. I was on lulu.com completing the process for uploading the book and got to the step where I was given my free ISBN. It really hit me then that this is actually happening and my dream is coming to fruition.
  4.  “Choose the Cover” where everyone will get the chance to vote on the cover that I will use for my book is still open. The poll can be found here: https://mayasp8.wordpress.com/2014/09/22/choose-the-cover/
    Voting closes October 9, 2014.
  5.  Be following on instagram @luv2rite1922 to be the first person to see the cover. Cover Reveal October 10, 2014.
  6. The prices for the book are as follows: Paperback- $9.99; Ebook: $2.99. All sales are final and there will not be any refunds unless there is an extenuating circumstance which will need to be discussed with me before a refund is awarded.
  7.  There are 42 days left until November 14th and Last Look Back’s official release.
  8.  Should there be a pre-order? Let me know if you would like to order the book early. The book is ready, I just don’t know if I am, eek! I’ll have to work on it and you’ll know by the end of the weekend what I decide.
There will be incentives for pre-order. Watch until the end of the video to find out. Psst, the incentives are at 10:48, if you just want to fast forward. I completely understand.
Woo! That was a lot. As always, thank you all for watching. And thank you for your support, I love you guys.

Spotlight Saturday: “Sir Nicholas Winton”

Spotlight Saturday: “Sir Nicholas Winton”

Sir Nicholas Winton is a humanitarian who organized a rescue operation that saved the lives of 669 Jewish Czechoslovakia children from Nazi death camps, and brought them to the safety of Great Britain between the years 1938-1939. After the war, his efforts remained unknown. That is, until 1988 when Winton’s wife Grete found the scrapbook from 1939 with the complete list of children’s names and photos. In this clip, Winton is sitting in an audience next to some of the children that he saved and he doesn’t know it. Just watch the look of surprise and awe on his face. It is a touching moment and I am glad that I was able to see it. Sir Winton is a hero and the spotlight goes on him today. Thank you Sir Winton for your selflessness and courage.

Writing update of the New Year

Writing update of the New Year

On November 4, 2013, I made the decision to start my novel. It was in conjunction with Nanowrimo. Though I did not reach the 50,000 word limit in November as the guidelines dictate, I am happy to say that as of today I have reached that goal and my novel is 50,137 words. Woah! I never knew just how many words that actually was until I tried to write them. As I said in my Nanowrimo post, I underestimated just how much 50,000 words was and it makes me proud that I have stuck to the goal despite its difficulty. I plan to keep pushing through until I finish the story and then I will be trudging through the rewrites and all the glamorous things involved in book writing that they tell you about in movies.

This journey has been so much fun. I could spend hours staring at a screen creating a world that has not been discovered before. I  have had to tear myself away from the screen many times to go eat. I love getting trapped in my own mind and just wandering around wherever my words take me. I often think I’m crazy to like being by myself so much just writing. I’m pretty sure that’s the introvert in me or possibly the writer in me as well.  There are many quotes that say to be a writer is to be insane. That struggle against silence is not for the weak or lighthearted. During this time, I’ve learned that writing is an uphill slope. It’s a daily battle and a struggle against silence. It’s a question of perseverance. The real writer, the true writer writes every day breaking new ground and achieving a goal. I don’t know if that makes me a real or a true writer. I just appreciate having something that I want to protect and that I’m willing to work for. I look forward to learning even more lessons as I finish my first ever novel.

What is that one thing that you all love? That one thing that you’d work for and you love more than anything? I’d love to read about it in the comments below.

Happy New Year!!: “What I carried into the new year”

Happy New Year!!: “What I carried into the new year”

To celebrate the new year, my family and I went to a watch night service at our church. In case you may not know what that means, a watch night service basically means we celebrate the new year at church with our church family. As I was getting ready to go, I had the though that I needed to clean out my purse and remove what I didn’t necessarily because I was of the mind that what I carried in my purse would be literally what I carried into the new year and I wanted to make sure I was only carrying what I wanted to take with me into a new venture.

Here’s what I carried into the new year:
Mittens, gloves, touch-up makeup, vaseline, spare change, large journal, purple pen, small M initial journal from Michael’s, wallet, Mr. Penumbra’s 24 hour bookstore by Robin Sloan, spare batteries for my mp3 player, bobbi pin, tissue, keys, usb cord, post-it notes, comb, deodorant, and pomegranate and mango lotion that smells simply divine.

Now, I could have probably did a better job of cleaning. I probably could’ve done without the usb cord or the batteries, but I’m not perfect and to be honest, I like to be prepared for everything so there’s going to be some things that don’t exactly serve a purpose now but may in the future. Also, if you noticed, I didn’t have my phone which I forgot at home. It worked out in the end because though phones are good, we should be mindful of all the time we spend on them. I enjoyed not focusing on my phone, being able to stay in the moment and focusing on having a wonderful new year with my family. I’m proud of myself that I had no trash in my bag, even my wallet was clean.  I didn’t bring any mess with me into 2014 and for that I am thankful.  I hope you all have been following this long-winded analogy. Think long and hard about what you carried into 2014. There are probably a lot of things you should probably have left in 2013 and it’s okay. It’s not too late to  clean your purse or pockets out just a little more and make sure you are carrying the right things. And if you’re not ready already, get ready for an awesomely amazing, unbelievably great year.
