Why Self-publish?

Why Self-publish?

self-publish funnyPromo Storm 2014 has been underway for a couple of days. It is my hope that with these posts I can answer any potential questions  that people may have about my writing journey. Today, I’ll be talking about why I chose to self-publish instead of taking the traditional route. Here’s the hopefully short version of the story: I’m a type of person that sometimes loses interest easily and waiting has never been my strong suit. I also don’t like putting the way I feel about myself and my writing into someone else’s hands. That being said, waiting for an agent to decide that my book was “good enough” for them just wasn’t working for me. Of course, that may not be exactly what agents are thinking, but this is how it felt from my side. After querying agents and waiting for their response, I started to question my skill and whether writing was even still my dream. I was rejected a couple of times. That time worked for my good because once I stopped wallowing, I took another look at my work. I was able to look at my book more clearly and realized that it needed some work. But, I didn’t want to put even more work into my novel just to have it scrutinized by more agents so I figured the best thing for me to do was to put it out there myself which is why I chose self-publishing. I initially didn’t want to do self-publishing because I thought it would be a lot of hard work, but the more I thought about it, the more I saw its benefits. Self-publishing gives me the freedom to do everything at my own pace. The freedom to reach as many people as I could. The freedom to market the way I want to. The freedom to write the way I want to. I can write as much or as little as I want and as often as I want. I can control every facet of production and nothing about my book is out of my control. The more I think about my decision to self-publish, the more I am glad that I made that decision. Now all I have to do is wait for November 14th to get here. The day can’t get here soon enough.

The Day You’ve Been Waiting For…

The Day You’ve Been Waiting For…

OK, you probably haven’t actually been waiting for this day, but humor me. It’s the beginning of Promo Storm 2014. If you happen to not know what Promo Storm is (shame on you), it is my version of promoting Last Look Back before its release date on November 14, 2014. Today, I’ll be sharing the back cover summary, the summary on the back cover of the book that makes you want to pick up. This way you can finally know what this book is about and you’ll be extra excited to purchase it come November 14, 2014.

Read on:

back summary

In the off-chance you can’t read it on the picture, here’s the summary again:

On the eve of her college graduation, Octavia “Vie” Steele is thrust back into a world that she thought she left behind. To many, she appears to be a normal college senior with a   future of possibilities ahead of her. In reality, she’s a spy, a top member of S.E. a spy organization that only few know about, or at least that’s who she used to be. Four years ago, a botched mission in Switzerland forced her to question her loyalties and the people she thought she could trust.

Now, hours before her graduation, Vie is forced to take a requalification exam to see if her spy skills are up to par. However, this is not a simple pencil and paper test and Octavia is everything but ready for it. With her past staring her in the face, Vie will need to make a choice. By the end of the night, she’ll need to decide who the real Vie is: the college student or the   super spy. Of course, that’s only if she has what it takes to survive one of the most dangerous nights of her life.

I hope this makes you super-ready for the release. Keep checking back for updates and we can get even more excited.

This is Actually Happening

This is Actually Happening

Yesterday, I was looking at the cover design my sister created for Last Look Back. (She’s awesome by the way, check out her blog thejunoesque.com for more of her designs.) I’m looking at the cover and I’m like this is actually happening. In less than two months, I am releasing my first book. THIS IS HAPPENING!!! I always like to update you all with my feelings especially with my writing journey and the book coming out very soon. With these posts, I try to find a picture that fully encompasses my current feelings, but I just couldn’t find one that said everything that I was going through. So, today we’re going to shake things up a little and I’m going to tell you all how I’m currently feeling through the use of gifs. If you happen to not know what gifs are, they’re moving pictures and they will show you the exact range of emotions that come with a Book Launch.

And now…

I look at the calendar and see that November 14th will be here very quickly.

I hide waiting for the reactions.

If they like it…

If they hate it…

But, it’s okay. Just Breathe. I did it.

This one’s over…

Crazy as it sounds, but I’ll probably do it again.

Because writing novels is the best because I get to share my work with you.

The End.

That’s my story. I hope you like it. Now, it’s announcements time:

September 22, 2014: “Choose the Cover” – I’m torn about which is the best Cover Design for the Last Look Back Cover, so I’m going to have you all vote which is the better cover. I won’t tell you which one I like the best until after voting. Voting ends October 9, 2014.

October 10, 2014: “Cover Reveal” – On my instagram @luv2rite1922, I will be revealing which design I’m picking. Be following me, to be one of the first to find out which cover it will be.

And finally…

From October 1, 2014 until the Book Launch, I will be doing a Promo Storm. What’s a Promo Storm, you may ask? It’s my version of creating buzz for my new book. For 40+ days, I will be posting about all things Last Look Back. I’ll be giving you all a behind the scenes look into a lot of the writing choices I’ve made and interesting things that have happened on  my writing journey. By November 14, you will know a lot more about Last Look Back than you probably would ever want to know. You’re welcome.

So, those are my announcements and gif story. I hope you all are getting excited. I can’t believe this is actually happening. 🙂
