Book Release Countdown: 9 Days Left

Book Release Countdown: 9 Days Left

gettingreal

It’s getting real!!! Today, my friend instagrammed and texted me telling me that she received her copy of my book. I will take a moment to say how proud I am of the United States Postal Services. That was quick. It took only two days to get to its destination. I will also take this moment to say OMG!!! I am so excited!! Someone in the world has my book. OMG! OMG! OMG! OK, My, breathe.

I also received the license that allows me to collect sales tax on my book. Taxes, Ughh I know, but it makes me feel so official. Like this isn’t just a dream coming true, this is a real business.

It’s Nano2014 and I have at this exact second, 8,939 words. I’m writing a lot differently than I have in the past. The story I am writing is in third person and has a lot more description which is something that I have been trying to get better at. I’m having a blast writing and I think I’ll actually meet the 50,000 word goal (here’s hoping I didn’t just jinx myself.)

I think I’ve got the release  party all planned. I just need to do a little fine-tuning and I need to come up with a big surprise for a finale. Fingers crossed everything comes together.

Another day finished and another day closer to the best book you may ever read this year.

Book Release Countdown: 10 Days Left

Book Release Countdown: 10 Days Left

I almost didn’t blog today. It’s not like anything’s wrong, I just wanted to be lazy today. I shipped off the pre-order copies yesterday and handled some other admin stuff and I’m just a tad bit tired. I’m supposed to be doing laundry, but don’t feel like getting out of bed. I have successfully lazed away the entire day away. That’s an accomplishment in itself. Okay, I should probably say something more significant and groundbreaking, so I’m not completely wasting your time. Hmm… how about accept your mistakes? That’s a good one. Let’s run with it. We all make mistakes. If you don’t, you’re probably a life-like android sent to take over the world. It’s okay to make mistakes and it’s important to not dwell on them. I say this because I’ve decided to stop looking through my book for mistakes. I’m wasting my energy frantically looking for something wrong with days left until the release when I really should be focusing on how to make November 14th the best book release party/ birthday party ever. Focusing too much on your mistakes takes away your attention from what’s really important, so make mistakes, learn from them and move on.

Take a note from Ryan Gosling…You made a mistake.

Book Release Countdown: 11 Days Left

It’s been sort of a busy day trying to get everything in order and make sure I’m prepared for the 14th. I won’t bore you with all the details, but I will say this: Going after your dreams isn’t easy. If someone tells you they are, they’re either lying to you or trying to sell you something. Yes, it’s hard, but if you want to accomplish it, you have to find the courage to chase down the dream with all of your heart. Don’t stop when it gets hard, but persevere and make your dreams a reality.

I don’t know who needed that word of encouragement but know I’m here for you and I know you can do it. And here’s some extra encouragement if you need it:Dream4 Dream3 Dream2 Dream1

P.S. You won’t be able to join me for the best virtual book release party if you don’t where to go, so here’s the link to Google Hangouts On Air site where the Virtual Party will be hosted: https://plus.google.com/events/ceeoejnagr8o3pf36i8dicqtcc4

Also, as you know, the book release party is doubling as the spy-themed birthday party for the main character of Last Look Back, Octavia Steele. During the party, there will be a birthday surprise. This surprise will incorporate all of you, so if you would be so kind and in the comment section below, write some birthday well wishes for the great Octavia Steele, I’d greatly appreciate it. If the surprise goes well you’ll be seeing your comment very soon.

book cover mockups1

It’s now November and you know what that means. The official release date of my debut novel, Last Look Back will be here before you know it. There are now two weeks exactly until the best book release party ever. To countdown the final two weeks, I’m going to post daily updates of my final preparations of releasing my book and planning the virtual party. I’ll also share some life updates that happen that may be of some interest to you. For example, it’s November 1st. November 1st means Nanowrimo. Nanowrimo means I have another book in the works. Wow, I’m actually doing Nano this year. Am I crazy? I won’t be sharing any of the book details now, but I will tell you this, it’s going to be good if I do say so myself. What else is happening? I don’t think it’s fully hit me that my book will be available in two weeks. I wonder how long it will take for that to set in.

Embrace the Lazy Days

Embrace the Lazy Days

Lazy-Day-Saying

Now when I say Embrace Lazy Days, I mean to do so in moderation. You can’t have lazy days every day and expect to get anything done.  For me, I need to have at least one lazy day a week or even one every couple of days. Sometimes I need more than one day. You may have noticed the lack of Promo Storm posts. There are couple of reasons why I stopped. You all are probably so tired of my excuses, but I still feel the need to explain.

I realized that a lot of the topics I was going to discuss were hard to explain without you having the book. Also publishing, specifically self-publishing, takes a lot of your energy and brain power, more than I expected. Even my power reserves are tapped out. You guys, I am tired! In hindsight, I should have known better. Publishing takes your full attention. I should have made sure every thing was taken care of first before trying to have a Promo Storm every day as well. There has just been so much going on and I really needed a break. Though it’s been tiring, I’ve learned A LOT about the publishing process and now I am definitely prepared for my next book. I also know a better way to format a promo storm if I decide to do it again. Even though I’ve made a lot of mistakes and there have been more than a few gaffes, it’s all taught me what I need to do for the future.

And now we’re back to the title. Embracing the lazy days. There have been times in this process when I’ve gotten overwhelmed and really tired, so I’ve had to take a step back and just embrace the lazy days. Most times you need to push through the laziness or tiredness to get the words on the paper, but other times you really need to rest. If you’re not careful, the tiredness will be apparent in your work and you’ve forced yourself to write something that’s not so good. So, if you’re feeling a little lazy, it’s okay. Take a day off. Just don’t break forever. There’s work to be done.

P.S. I am officially done with my lazy days, but there will probably not be any more posts until we get closer to the release date and party on November 14th. I’m in the midst of planning now and will be sending you updates as we get closer to the date. I hope you all are still excited and ready for this book to come out. I can’t wait! 16 more days!!! 🙂
